EVERY TASTY SNACK YOU BUY HELPS TO HIRE FORMERLY INCARCERATED WOMEN

As our brand grows, so does our commitment to our friends and neighbors. When Debra was declared cancer-free, Susie knew her daughter had been given a second chance. Now through Mama Suebee’s Kitchen, we are committed to offering others the same opportunity. Mama Suebee’s Kitchen will partner with local leaders to employ formerly-incarcerated mothers to join their team. By giving these women the platform on which to better themselves and their families, we create a better community, a better Detroit.

Mama Suebee’s Kitchen is the brainchild of Susie Washington, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother from Detroit’s West Side who always puts her family front and center. Never was that focus on family more important than in 2010, when her daughter Debra was diagnosed with breast cancer. Feeling powerless in that moment, Susie realized that the one thing she could control was the quality and healthfulness of the food she and her daughter put into their bodies. With roots in comforting, stick-to-your-ribs soul food, Susie understood flavor and sought to bring that same pop to healthy dishes – and thus, Mama Suebee’s Kitchen was born.

Since 2015, Mama Suebee's Kitchen has sold their made-from-scratch line of kale chips, nutty bars, jams, and Carrot Supreme to thousands of Detroiters at farmers markets and other events around the city. Built on the firm belief that plant-based diets can transform your health and well-being, Susie and Debra are committed to bringing the lessons learned in their own family kitchen to the greater Detroit community.
